So, to continue with my efforts to work on my own crochet projects alongside my crochet cushions I’m joining in with #crochetmoodblanket2014.
The idea of @mummy_stacey on Instagram, the aim is to crochet (or knit) a square every day of 2014 (or one a week if you don’t have time for one a day) to represent your mood on that particular day. Join them together and at the end of the year you have a Fabulous blanket.
I love the idea of this project – I get to crochet something for ME every day – and as it’s only one square a day it’s not all that time consuming.
As I have plenty of different colours (and shades of colours) of yarn in my stash Missy and I have allocated some general colour ranges to my most common moods. I don’t want to be tied to any specific shades or brand of yarn so the final blanket will end up with a variety of textures and colours. Perfect….a ‘what will be will be” blanket!
Here’s my yarn stash and the colour and mood allocations.
As is my usual style, I made up my first square as I went along, I don’t think it’s too bad. I quite like it actually. I’m going to join as I go in white yarn and block my squares every few days.
Day 1’s square was blue for contentment. I’d say I’m starting off 2014 pretty content with my lot. I have a great little family and we had a lovely, restful Christmas and New Year just chilling out and being together. I am very happy with my new job as a Teaching Assistant and I couldn’t have asked for a better first Christmas as PatternPiper – I’d say 15 cushion orders was pretty good going – and I’ve got a fair idea of where I want PatternPiper to go. Yep, Content was definitely appropriate for Day 1.
Day 2 was Magenta for happy. Another lazy day at home for me and the kids (The Mr returned to work after the New Year) we just chilled out, ate cake, walked the dog and I finished a cushion I’d been working on.
Day 3 was Green for frustrated. My computer was misbehaving. Not a big deal but frustrating all the same.
Day 4 was Magenta again. Another happy day in the PatternPiper household. Missy had a friend over and it makes me happy to see the kid’s friends comfortable and ‘at home’ in our home.
Day 5 was Pink for tired. I always feel shattered by the time Sunday evening comes around. I think its mental tiredness more than anything – just trying to make sure I’m organised for the week ahead and the kids have everything they need for their various clubs, activities and school.
Day 6 was Orange for excited. Back to school today for me and the kids and to an exciting opportunity at work. I also treated myself to some Clover Touch crochet hooks from the lovely Emma who runs the Yarn and Craft Shop. She’s so helpful with my yarn related questions and is offering a discount on crochetmoodblanket related purchases with the coupon code “moodblanket2014”
Day 7 – Frustrated again! I’m sure it won’t be the last day that I find being mother to an 11-year-old frustrating!
So, that’s a round-up of my first week’s squares for my Crochet Mood Blanket!
You can follow #crochetmoodblanket2014 on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to see all the amazing blankets being created all over the world – so many beautiful pictures to look at. And my plan is to post pictures of my squares on Instagram and Twitter everyday and round-up here every now and then (we will have to see how that plan works out!)
Is anyone else making one? I’d love to see pictures.
