Creatives Unite Non Uniform Day

If you follow me on Instagram and Twitter you’ll have probably noticed me posting with the hashtag #creativesunitenonuniformday almost everyday since the beginning of May. And you maybe wondering what on earth I’m rabbiting on about. You might already know. You might even be taking part.

Creatives Unite is a group of crafty people who ‘get together’ on Twitter every Thursday evening between 8 & 10pm to share what we are working on, share tips and encouragement and to generally have a good old natter. Search us out with the hashtag – #creativesunite or visit Miss Beatrix for more information.

A year of cushions!

I suddenly realised this week that it is one year since I made my first crochet cushion.

If you were to ask my mum what she would like for her birthday or Mother’s Day she always says the same thing…”Oh, don’t bother with gifts, just a homemade card would be lovely”. Not wanting to give just a card for these special occasions, I remember searching blogs last year for ideas of something I could make mum for Mother’s Day.

I came across this tutorial on the Purl Bee and felt completely inspired to make mum a crochet and cross stitch cushion – with a very personal message.

Half Term Baking – Banana Cupcakes

Today is the first day of half term.

One of the first school holidays that I’ve had with the kids where I haven’t felt torn between them and the day job.

I’m fortunate enough now to be working in a school, meaning that I have the same time off as my children. I no longer have to worry about how on earth we are going to cover the school holidays throughout the year, as we don’t have enough annual leave between us to cover the days that they are not at school – and heaven forbid they have a sick day! I no longer need to think about how I’m going to make up the extra hours I need to take off to look after the kids and when we are ever going to manage to take time off together to do things as a family.

Popcorn Stitch Crochet Rug

When I started this blog I had plans of sharing lots and lots of my crochet makes, but looking back there have been a lot more “Family” and “General Ramblings” and a little less “Crochet” than I thought there would be.

Mainly because I’ve been so busy making Crochet Cushions that I’ve had less time for other crochet projects. Now, I’m not complaining about that at all – I could sit and make crochet cushions all day, that’d be lovely………..oh, sorry, I drifted off to a land of crochet cushiony lovlieness there for a second……….but I haven’t completed any other crochet projects pretty much all year! And, I think it’s important to make time for my own projects otherwise I might just go crazy.

So here’s one I worked on between Christmas and New Year, in the evenings, whilst eating ridiculous amounts of chocolate, crisps, cheese and crackers and mince pies!
